Are you feeling the weight of “New Year, New You” messaging everywhere you turn?
Yeah… me too. And we’re not doing that here.

In this episode of Clear & On Purpose, Christina gets real about why the traditional New Year hype often leaves us feeling behind before we even begin. Instead of forcing yourself into a whole new identity on January 1st, this conversation invites you into a more grounded, human, and sustainable way of growing.

Inside the episode, you’ll hear:

✨ Why January 1st isn’t the only (or even the best) time to begin again
✨ The truth about “Quitters Day” — and how it’s not a sign of failure
✨ A seasonal approach to planning that honors your energy instead of fighting it
✨ How feeling-based goals create more lasting change than rigid resolutions
✨ Simple, real-life ways small intentional choices compound into meaningful transformation

If you’re ready to release the pressure, reconnect to yourself, and create a year that actually feels aligned with who you are… this episode will meet you right where you’re at.

Hey there. Welcome back to Clear and On Purpose. I'm Christina, your coach and guide, and today we're diving into something that's plastered all over the place this time of year. New Year, new. You love it or hate it. It's everywhere. Let's talk about what it really means, how it sets up up for success or failure, and what we can do to harness this January energy in a way that feels intentional and sustainable.

So let's be real. What does a mere 24 hours really change? January 1st isn't magic. There's no fairy dust that suddenly makes a brand new person. Honestly, most people fail at their New Year's resolutions before we're even halfway through January. They even have a special day for it called Twitter's Day.

It's the second Friday of January, and statistically it's the day most people give up. And can we talk about how hilariously unfair it is to expect this sun transformation after we've stayed up too late and probably overindulged in food? Champagne and are just trying to function on January 1st. It's no wonder resolutions feel impossible, but here's the thing.

I still love this time of year. I know that might sound contradictory. Let me explain. There's something about January that just feels like a reset button. I love the energy of a fresh start. It's not about becoming a whole new person. It's about dreaming, reflecting. Setting intentions. It's like staring at a blank canvas and imagining what the year could be.

I remember a few years ago sitting down with my planner and getting so excited about what I wanted to create for the year ahead. I had color called it goals, timelines, all the things, and then by March my pet completely derailed my plaintiffs. I avoided looking at those goals because I felt like such a failure.

Honestly, that's the story for many of us, right? But here's what I've learned. Goals are not about perfection. They're about progress. So now, instead of trying to transform overnight, I give myself permission to be in process. I plan in seasons, I take smaller steps, and I focus on how I wanna feel, rather than just what I want to accomplish.

Set realistic expectations. You're still you on January 1st. All your quirks, abbots, and challenges. Change isn't linear and setbacks are part of the process. I think of it like this. You're crafting a new version of yourself throughout the year. One small action at a time. It's not about waking up and being someone else.

It's about becoming more aligned with the version of yourself you're working toward. Focus on intentions and values instead of making a list of things to stop doing, like losing weight, having spending, using less social media. Ask myself what I wanna feel more of this year. How can I create more of that feeling in my life?

For me that might be adding more connection with friends of building more moments of fun into the every day's, not a make this about deprivation. Let's make it about abundance. Keep it simple. Here's a fun fact about me. I love planning, but I've learned that annual goals are too much. Instead, I break things into seasons, not 90 days at a time.

I use something that's called the Wheel of Life, myself and the clients to look at all the areas of my life, and I set intentions for how I wanna feel in each area over the year. Then I pick one or two goals to focus on for the next three months. For example, a couple years ago, I wanted to clutter my house.

If you've had small children, you know it can get too much. It felt overwhelming at first, but I broke it down. One drawer, one closet. One room at a time by the end of the year. My house felt completely different, but it was because I kept it small and manageable, let go of perfection. This one's hard for me.

I like things to be just right, but I've learned that starting messy is better than not starting at all. A couple years ago, I wanted to start running again after years of not exercising regularly. At first, it was awkward. I felt slow, uncoordinated, and self-conscious, but I just kept showing up step by step, run by run, it got stronger.

It wasn't about being perfect. It was about starting and sticking with it, even when it felt messy. So yes, I love the New Year energy and yes, it's okay to feel skeptical about it too. The key is to use this time as an opportunity. Not to pressure yourself into becoming a new you, but to align with the best version of yourself that you've already becoming.

Whether it's January 1st or a random Tuesday, the best time to start is now. Just take the next tiny step, and if you need support along the way, reach out. I'd love to help you create a plan that feels clear, doable, and aligned with your life. If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear about it.
