Becoming
[00:00:00] What does it feel like to be that woman? For me, she's bold, confident, healthy, courageous. She's energetic and full of life, and, and she's feeling alive. She's having fun, and she's letting things come easy. She's hopeful and optimistic, and she's taking action and trusting.
She's letting go of expectations and others' prescriptions of what she should be doing, and she's really tuning into her own body. She's present, she's enjoying the journey, she's glowing, and by focusing on those desired feelings, I can kind of look at that as a pathway to reverse engineer the habits, the routines, the actions that are aligned with those core values.
Christina: Welcome to Clear and On Purpose, the podcast design to help you cut through the noise and get back to what matters most. [00:01:00] If you're feeling stuck, but needs to take intentional action, you are in the right place. I'm Christina Slayback, homeschooling mom of two and life and business coach, helping you drop in and align with your values and create more space.
Each week I'll be sharing practical insights and simple. Actionable steps to help you find clarity, boost your energy, and design a life that balances ambition with mates. Let's dive in and get clear on purpose.
As I've been leaning into the second half of the year, I've been taking some time to review my intentions and my habits and my goals, and as part of that, I've really been considering what I want to incorporate more of into my life and what things I wanna let go of, but to ensure that I'm doing this in a really aligned way and not simply regurgitating some goals that I think that I should want.
I wanna really take the [00:02:00] time to sit with and review what. My core desires are what my version of success looks like and the version of me that I want to inhabit and embody by incorporating more of these actions and goals. So today I'm gonna actually take some time and I'm gonna walk through a reflective exercise that I'm doing as part of this reset and hope that maybe.
By looking at it and taking the time to do this on your own, that you'll really be able to get a clearer understanding of what you want, what you desire, and to be able to use that to create your own habits, your own routines, and do your own reset of your goals. So as I was starting to look at this summer and thinking about the things that I wanna incorporate, a lot of the information and a lot of the stuff that's out there is.
Promoting, um, resetting habits and getting into this summer energy. [00:03:00] There's a lot of like this hot girl summer, or I've even seen it rebranded a little bit as like a healthy girl summer. And I think that using that, even if I don't necessarily agree with the superficiality of the hot girl summer, or, um, incorporating a lot of routines that other people find as part of their helmet or their wellness journey.
I do think that the idea of looking at the That girl, or in my case, I think that woman version and looking at it in terms of my favorite version of me, who is that woman? That favorite version of me that shows up for herself and she does the thing that things that she says she's going to. And by looking at it and thinking about and envisioning that woman.
I am thinking about how she's feeling. What does it feel like to be that woman? For me, [00:04:00] she's bold, confident, healthy, courageous.
Use because we often think about it backwards. We think that once we have the thing that we're going to feel the feelings. Once I have the huge house, once I have the fancy car, then I'll feel successful, then I'll feel [00:05:00] confident. But what we miss is that more often than not, it's the reverse. So it's not the have and the doing the actions, and then I am the person.
It's that I need to become the person, I need to do the actions, and then I have the things. So it's this, be, do, have. So by taking a few minutes and thinking about what that means for you and what are those core values that you desire, what are those core feelings that you wanna embody? And if you want help diving into your core desired values or these core desired feelings, I highly recommend the Desire Map by Daniel LaPorte.
It's pretty extensive, but you can find versions or even PDFs of just, um, an overview of different feelings that you can have for your core desired feelings to get your brain working and thinking about what those feelings might be. Once you have that version, that's [00:06:00] list of what your core desired feelings of, of your favorite version of yourself, what she feels.
Then think about what that version is embodying. How does she embody those feelings? Who is she? What does she look like? How does she carry herself? What is she doing? And start listing out all the qualities, the habits, the routines, the actions that she take. What is she thinking about as she's going through her day?
What are the habits that are aligning her and keeping her on track to feeling the way that she's doing? And for. Being and doing, taking the actions that she needs to take. You can also think of this in terms of writing about her ideal day. So looking at what is an ideal day in her life? When does she wake up?
What is she doing in the morning? How is she conducting her health? How is she spending her time? What are the activities that she's doing? What are the habits that are helping to CR to create this lifestyle for [00:07:00] her? Her. And when you have a really clear image of this woman, this version of you in your mind, start to break it down.
So take that version, take that idea, look at that ideal day, and identify what are the actions, the habits, the routines that you can start to implement. What are you already doing that you can continue doing? And what are things that you wanna stop doing? So that you can allow more time for these other versions and start moving these into lists.
So take and look at and identify all of the different activities, all of the habits, the routines, the actions, all the things that she's doing, and just make a whole list of all of these different attributes and then start to divide them into start doing. So habits that and routines and actions that you're not currently doing that you wanna start doing.
Continue [00:08:00] to do so. What are things that you are already doing? How are you already embodying this version of you that you wanna continue to do? And then what are the things that you are currently doing that are not aligned with that version? What are the things you want to stop doing? And once you've broken it down and all those activities into the different lists, then think about and continue to go into.
How these are aligned with those core desired feelings. So this is not a time for you to start to create someone else's ideal version of themselves of all the things that you think that you should do or should not be doing. I could say that I wanted to build a huge client list and start speaking on stages every week, and I'm going to spend 10 hours a day working on my goals and completing them, but that's actually not aligned with my version of life balance.
That is my version of [00:09:00] myself that I wanna be aligned with. So looking at that and trying to incorporate that is not going to actually get me to the spot that is my version of success. But if I'm looking at continuing to intentionally add collaborations and really aligned clients that I. Love coaching and connecting with and working with that does align with those desires within the parameters of time that I want to devote to that.
So take this time to make sure that when you are looking at adding things to the start, continue, or stop list, that these are things that you actually want to be doing. That actually when you look at them, you can say, yes, that does align with those feelings that I desire. If you're looking at something and you put it on your list and you're dreading it and you don't wanna do it, that might be a sign that that's not aligned with those feelings.
It should feel expansive. It might feel a little uncomfortable, but [00:10:00] deep down it feels like that is the version of you that you wanna move towards. So once you have those lists, start looking for one or two things that you can start to implement right away. So how can you set yourself up for success by building on what's already working?
So don't think of this as an entire life overhaul. You are not going to go from what you currently doing, all of the routines, all the habits, all the goals that you have to all of a sudden becoming in a day this person, in this ideal or favorite version of you. So if you're currently waking up in just enough time to get ready, grab your coffee and race off to work, you're probably not going to all of a sudden start waking up at 5:00 AM and doing an elaborate morning routine.
Just like if you're barely getting any movement in your days, you're probably not gonna immediately start training for America. Thought. So what are the [00:11:00] incremental changes that you can start to do and use those as building blocks to move you closer to that version of you Think of these as easy wins that you can build on.
You don't wanna start and have this whole 50 new habits that you're trying to incorporate all at once, and then have that be unsustainable and then go back to, this never works. This is just who I am and this is how I'm going to be. You wanna be able to build on easy wins. So look at it and think, what are some quick and easy things that I can start to do now that will bring me closer to that and build on those and stack your habits with that vision in mind so you can continue to add more habits as you get those ones kind of incorporated.
And by framing this version and the habits and actions in terms of your bigger why and the version of yourself that's aligned with your core desired feelings. You can use that to weigh new opportunities. You can use it to set boundaries and [00:12:00] notice where you're out of alignment with other people. You can use it to decide whether to take on new projects, and you can revisit and re-envision this version of you as you continue to grow and change as you enter new Seasons.
But it's always this compass that's leading you back to yourself, and as you grow and as you evolve and you become. More aware of what you actually desire, that version will change, that vision will change. But by having that compass and this way to return to what you've identified, you have that point to be able to say.
This doesn't feel good or this is really juicy and I really wanna start looking into this more. And you can adjust and pivot and be able to bring that in with this new information as you continue to grow and change and just continue to evolve it. But having a [00:13:00] center compass, a way to be able to look at things in your life and what's working and not.
It's gonna allow you so much more information and knowledge to be able to make more decisions that are aligned with you, to be able to get closer to this version of this ideal life that you desire. So I hope that this is helpful for you and I would love to hear about if you start to work through this exercise, if what's coming up for you.
Um, if there's any surprises and what new things you're going to incorporate into this next version, this opportunity, there are opportunities all the time to do a reset. You do not need a beginning of the year. You don't need a middle of the year. You don't need the beginning of a month or even the beginning of a week.
You can use this exercise at any time that you are just feeling a little off, that you want to really hone in and get more clear on what [00:14:00] you desire. So thank you so much for listening to me. I'm so grateful for all of you that listen and tune in. I'm so grateful for those of you that reach out and I really appreciate you showing up for yourselves and also spending some time with me.
